A protest formed Saturday outside the Hotel San Juan in Isla Verde, where Governor Jenniffer González Colón was holding a political fundraising event for her committee to mark her birthday. Protesters focused their chants on Puerto Rico's ongoing water and electricity service crises, forcing closure of the hotel's main entrance; guests had to enter through a side access while being booed.
According to committee treasurer Oriol Campos, the highest-priced ticket for the event cost $2,500 per person. The protest coincided with a power grid transmission failure Saturday afternoon that left thousands without electricity, alongside water service interruptions in parts of the metro area.
Separately, quarterly campaign finance reports filed with the Office of the Electoral Comptroller show the New Progressive Party (PNP), chaired by González, raised $457,195.89 in April-June; the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), whose next gubernatorial candidate is Juan Dalmau, raised $131,777.31; the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), led by Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández, raised $377,289.06; the Citizens' Victory Movement (MVC), led by Eva Prados, raised $69,416.79; and Project Dignity (PD), chaired by Nilda Pérez, raised $8,334.33.
