A man who said he was collecting rocks along a road near his home in the Montebello neighborhood of Manatí found a possible explosive device. He picked it up, brought it to the front of his residence, and called police.

Officers arrived at the scene, in the La Charca sector, on Monday night and observed the object, preliminarily identified as a grenade-style device. Lieutenant Christian Avilés, director of the Explosives and Technical Unit for the Arecibo area, neutralized the device, and three other officers transported it to Isla de Cabras in Cataño for disposal.

Personnel from the Fire Bureau and the Office of Emergency Medical Services of the municipality of Manatí also responded to the scene. This marks the second suspected explosive device found this week, following an alert about an object found Monday on a beach in Humacao.
