A man was killed and a dog was shot early Monday morning in front of the administration offices of the Vigo Salas public housing project in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico Police reported. Authorities were alerted around 1:05 a.m. via a call to the 9-1-1 Emergency System. Upon arrival, officers found the body of Jonathan Rivera Hermina, 32, a resident of Camuy, who had multiple gunshot wounds that caused his death at the scene.
Police said the victim had a criminal record. During the incident, a dog was also shot. Agent Joel Vidot, coordinator for Law 154 on Animal Welfare and Protection, took charge of the animal and transported it to a veterinary hospital for treatment.
Agent Ramiro González Nieves of the Quebradillas District conducted the initial investigation. The case was later taken over by agents from the Arecibo Homicide Division, under the supervision of Sergeant Adalberto Santiago, working alongside prosecutor Daralis Alicea Cordero.
