The San Juan District Attorney's Office filed two attempted-murder charges against a woman accused of attacking attorney Irving Prado Galarza, trying to strangle him, and then running him over twice with his own vehicle early Saturday, September 5, in San Juan, Justice Secretary Lourdes L. Gómez Torres announced. According to the investigation, the suspect, identified as Linda Jasmin Cruz, met Prado Galarza while both were at a business establishment. After it closed, Prado offered her a ride home since she had no transportation.
Minutes into the drive, she allegedly began punching him, wrapped his seatbelt around his neck until he couldn't breathe, and broke a ceramic cup over his head. Prado escaped the vehicle, after which Cruz took control of it and ran him over twice. Following an investigation by agents Naisha M. Velázquez and Luis Santiago Delgado of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC), prosecutors Melba López Ramos and María Isabel Cruz Rolón filed two counts of attempted murder under Article 93 of Puerto Rico's Penal Code.
Judge Rocío Alonso found probable cause for arrest and set bail at $600,000 total for both charges; Cruz was jailed after failing to post bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 17.
