Police detained a woman suspected of running over attorney Irvin Prado Galarzo at least twice in the early hours of Saturday in the El Comandante neighborhood of San Juan. Inspector Edwin Figueroa, director of San Juan's Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC), told El Nuevo Día authorities are still determining whether the incident was an accident, domestic violence, or an intentional assault, and had not yet interviewed the victim. CIC's Sexual Crimes Division is reviewing security camera footage.
Figueroa said Prado Galarzo suffered several fractures but did not specify any relationship between the parties. Prado Galarzo's brother, attorney Edwin Prado Galarza, told Telemundo's Telenoticias that his brother did not know the woman and had offered, as a good samaritan, to drive her home after trouble at a pub, but she attacked him in the car—hitting him in the face with a coffee cup, causing heavy bleeding, and trying to strangle him with the seatbelt. He said his brother, who has prior health conditions, managed to park before exiting the vehicle weak and bleeding, at which point the woman took the car and ran him over twice.
