Twelve of the 19 reservoirs monitored by the Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) showed increases in their levels on Friday, ahead of a rain-free weekend in Puerto Rico. The Carraízo reservoir in Trujillo Alto increased by 0.13 meters to 39.20 meters, remaining at an observation level. The Cidra reservoir also rose by 0.05 meters to 400.27 meters, reaching an observation level.
In contrast, the La Plata reservoir in Toa Alta lost 0.10 meters of water, dropping to 44.14 meters, but its subscribers are not currently under rationing. Other reservoirs that registered increases include several unnamed ones. The National Meteorological Service in San Juan forecasts a dense layer of Saharan dust, reducing visibility and air quality, as well as extremely hot conditions, with a heat alert in effect from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
The weather is expected to change on Sunday, with increased shower and thunderstorm activity, especially in western Puerto Rico.
