Why this matters: La Plata supplies drinking water to the San Juan metropolitan area, so a steady fall toward the Control level matters for households watching the reservoir as the dry season approaches.

The La Plata reservoir in Puerto Rico lost 48 centimeters, nearly half a meter, over the last seven days, according to monitoring records from the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA). Its level fell from 42.52 meters on Monday, October 26, to 42.04 meters on Monday, November 2, and the official chart for Monday still shows the reservoir in decline.

The reservoir remains in the Adjustments band of the AAA’s operating categories and is 1.54 meters above the Control band, set at 40.50 meters. The accumulated drop works out to an average of about seven centimeters per day over the period, though the pace of decline can vary. La Plata is one of the water sources for domestic supply in the metropolitan area, and its levels remain under monitoring to assess conditions in the reservoir.
