Milady R. González Cartagena, a 28-year-old woman, faces a charge after allegedly providing false information to authorities, claiming she was a victim of kidnapping, carjacking, and assault in Ponce. According to the police, the incident occurred on September 1, but the authorities found that the events did not happen.
Prosecutor Jorge Román Martínez filed a charge under Article 268 (False Declaration or Allegation of a Crime) of the Puerto Rico Penal Code. After evaluating the evidence, Judge Shakira Lebrón Muñoz of the Ponce Tribunal determined there was cause for arrest and set a $1,500 bail. González Cartagena posted bail and was released until the preliminary hearing.
The police investigation found that the reported crimes did not occur.
