Puerto Rico Police reported that a 30-year-old man was charged after allegedly firing a gun at officers during an intervention in Coamo. The incident occurred around 12:43 a.m. Monday after a 911 call reported gunshots in the Estancias de Coamo housing development on Candelaria Street. A complainant said his brother had repeatedly shown up outside his home, then he heard gunshots and saw a motorcycle used by his brother leaving.
When officers arrived, they saw the suspect exit holding a firearm; Sgt. Jesús M. Torres warned colleagues to take precaution before the man allegedly fired at officers. After verbal commands, police arrested him and identified him as Gerald Éramos Collazo Nolasco, 30, a resident of the area.
Officer Jorge Torres of the Technical Services Division recovered a .40-caliber shell casing, a wallet with personal documents, a .40-caliber Glock model 22 pistol, and a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle. Prosecutors filed 11 criminal charges under Article 168 of the Weapons Law and Article 93 (attempted murder). Judge Jenny Malavé Núñez found probable cause, set bail at $550,000, and since Collazo Nolasco could not post it, he was jailed. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 5, 2026.
