According to meteorologist Cecille Villanueva of the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología (SNM), Wednesday morning in Puerto Rico is expected to be relatively calm, but the afternoon may bring showers and thunderstorms to the interior and northwest areas, potentially causing urban and small stream flooding. The west and northwest parts of the island are of particular concern due to saturated soils and swollen rivers from recent rains.
Villanueva warned that any additional rainfall could lead to runoff and problems, and advised the public to take precautions during the hottest hours of the day, including staying hydrated, taking breaks, and checking on vulnerable populations like the elderly. Localized heat indices may reach 105-108 degrees Fahrenheit, and a disturbance approaching the region at night could increase cloudiness and showers over eastern Puerto Rico.
However, there is still uncertainty about the impact of this disturbance.
