According to the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología in San Juan, Puerto Rico will experience a rainy and active day on Thursday due to a combination of humidity from a tropical wave and a surface disturbance approaching the region. The SNM reported an increase in showers and thunderstorms during the early morning hours, with some of these rains affecting the eastern and northern coast. Isolated thunderstorms and passing showers are expected in the morning, mainly in the east of Puerto Rico, Vieques, Culebra, and the US Virgin Islands.
However, conditions are expected to become more unstable in the afternoon, with the potential for stronger showers and thunderstorms. The SNM forecast for San Juan includes a 60% chance of rain, with accumulations of between half an inch and three-quarters of an inch. The metropolitan area, including Bayamón, Guaynabo, Carolina, Cataño, San Juan, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, and Trujillo Alto, has a 70% chance of rain, with scattered showers in the morning and numerous showers in the afternoon.
The increased rain activity also raises the risk of water accumulation on roads, urban flooding, and flash flooding, as well as frequent lightning and strong wind gusts in intense thunderstorms. Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in areas that remain saturated from recent rains.
