The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan warned on Thursday about strong storms affecting sectors in the north and northwest of Puerto Rico, with wind gusts that could reach 40 miles per hour, frequent electrical activity, and possible funnel clouds. The SNM detected an area of strong storms over Hato Arriba in San Sebastián at 1:39 pm, moving northwest at 10 miles per hour, and another storm over Vega Baja at 1:49 pm, moving northwest at 20 miles per hour, threatening sectors of Vega Baja, Manatí, and Morovis.
The storms could produce gusts of up to 40 miles per hour, frequent electrical activity, and small hail, with the potential to knock down tree branches, displace unsecured objects, and cause minor damage to outdoor objects. The SNM warned of torrential rains and frequent electrical activity, which could cause sudden flooding and lightning strikes up to 10 miles away from a storm.
The agency urged people to seek shelter inside a structure or vehicle during electrical activity and not to attempt to cross flooded roads.
