Puerto Rico Police seized an AK-47 rifle, cocaine, and marijuana during an operation targeting apartments used to hide weapons and drugs at the Monte Hatillo public housing complex in Río Piedras. According to police, the Intelligence Division of the Negociado de Fuerzas Unidas de Rápida Acción (FURA), together with the Public Housing Administration's Security Office, inspected several apartments listed as vacant as part of the investigation.
Authorities identified units that were illegally occupied and used to store firearms and controlled substances. The investigation found that at least two apartments inhabited by elderly residents were also being used by other individuals to hide weapons and drugs; police said the elderly residents were temporarily removed from their homes so the units could be used for that purpose.
The raids yielded one AK-47 rifle, 278 capsules of cocaine, 180 containers of marijuana, and a bag containing approximately 113 grams of marijuana. The operation involved officers from the SWAT Division, the K-9 Unit, Rescue, the Air Unit, and the Arrests Division. Police said the investigation remains open to identify those linked to using the apartments to store firearms and drugs.
