The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan issued a heat warning for Puerto Rico, effective from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Monday. The warning indicates that heat indices will be above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The SNM explained that high temperatures or heat indices can worsen symptoms in people with chronic diseases and increase the risk of heat-related illnesses in sensitive individuals without adequate cooling or hydration.
The risks are higher in coastal areas, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban areas. In the afternoon, showers and thunderstorms may develop in the interior of the island and spread to the north and west of Puerto Rico, with possible rain in the El Yunque area. This increase in activity is associated with a tropical wave approaching the region, which is expected to remain mainly south of the area.
