The municipality of Aguadilla has opened its first history museum, Mayor Julio Roldán Concepción announced. The Museo Aguadillano de Historia represents a $250,000 investment and is described as the town's first institution dedicated to its history, forming part of a cultural and educational complex meant to preserve, research and promote Aguadilla's historical, cultural and natural legacy.
Its opening coincides with Aguadilla's designation as Capital Cultural de las Américas 2026. Mayor Roldán said the museum "represents much more than the opening of a building" and is meant to protect the town's memory and inspire future generations. Unlike traditional museums with permanent exhibits, the museum will feature rotating exhibitions, new research and audiovisual resources.
The inaugural exhibition, expected to run about one year, covers topics including the diet of ancestors, remnants of Spanish colonization, Aguadilla's pharmaceutical history, women's craftsmanship legacy, agricultural workers' history, Aguadilla and the sea, traditional festivals and imagery, the Aguadilla railroad, and a tribute to Agustín Stahl and the Christmas tree. The complex spans three levels.
