A delegation of Puerto Rican students excelled in the Open Championship for the Americas 2026, an international robotics competition held in Ontario, California. The event, which took place over the past weekend, brought together 120 teams from 28 countries. Puerto Rico was represented by 14 teams and nearly 100 participants from various educational institutions, including the Escuela Benjamín Harrison de Cayey, Escuela Abelardo Martínez Otero de Arecibo, and e-STREAM Academy de San Juan.
The teams competed in different categories, demonstrating their skills in programming, engineering, innovation, design, problem-solving, and teamwork. Notable results included the third-place finish by the RoboVision team from University Gardens, the highest position achieved by Puerto Rico during the championship. Other teams, such as PRV from e-STREAM Academy and CyberSpike from Escuela Pa' Los Duros de Carolina, also achieved top-five finishes in their respective categories.
César Cabrera, president of the Techno Inventors foundation, praised the students' performance, stating that it represents a collective achievement for Puerto Rico and showcases the potential of the island's students.
