The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved over $71 million in additional funding for Puerto Rico to support disaster recovery projects and strengthen the island's infrastructure. The funding includes nearly $43 million through FEMA's Public Assistance program and over $28 million through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The Public Assistance program will support infrastructure repairs, restoration of public facilities, and road and bridge projects, such as $9.2 million for repairs at the Punta Santiago pier in Humacao and $7.7 million for repairs to EFL Bridge No. 1199.
Other projects receiving funding include $3.6 million for the municipality of Comerío to repair the parking area at the Manuel Reyes Basketball Complex and $2.3 million for Guánica to repair recreational facilities. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program will support initiatives designed to reduce the potential impact of future disasters.
