FEMA announced approval of more than $45 million in post-disaster funding for Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant projects in Puerto Rico. The approved funds include nearly $44.8 million under FEMA’s Public Assistance program. Among the awards, $16.4 million goes to the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) for repairs to the sanitary trunk line in the towns of Juncos and Gurabo after damage from Hurricane Fiona.
FEMA also awarded nearly $565,000 for a project in the town of Naguabo to improve flood control and shoreline stabilization in the Mariana neighborhood (barrio). The federal agency allocates this money to states and territories. The funded projects include repairs to critical infrastructure, restoration of public buildings, road repairs and reimbursement of costs incurred to ensure public health and safety after a disaster.
According to FEMA, the mitigation actions will prevent, eliminate and reduce damage from future disasters.
