San Juan will host the Caribbean AI Summit on October 9 and 10 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, gathering experts, researchers and company representatives involved in artificial intelligence development. The event is organized by the Puerto Rico AI Community (PRAIC) and will feature more than 30 speakers from institutions and companies including MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, UC Berkeley, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Salesforce, Snowflake and Databricks.
Featured participants include Kay Firth-Butterfield, former head of Artificial Intelligence at the World Economic Forum; Fabio Duarte of the MIT Senseable City Lab; and Idoia Salazar, president of OdiseIA and AI adviser to the European Parliament. The website agenda also lists opening speeches by Resident Commissioner Pablo J. Hernández Rivera and House Speaker Carlos "Johnny" Méndez.
The program includes five keynote talks, 21 sessions and three simultaneous tracks focused on business, technology and society, plus an overnight hackathon in which teams of two to four people will build projects Friday night and present results Saturday on the main stage. Sessions will be bilingual, in English and Spanish, with real-time on-screen translation.
Attorney José David "JD" Torres Quiñones, summit co-chair, said Puerto Rico deserved a place in the global AI conversation. PRAIC president and co-chair Edward Roske highlighted bringing such experts to the island. PRAIC is a nonprofit with over 800 members. Registration is open until October 8.
