As part of Hunger Action Day, several buildings in Puerto Rico were illuminated in orange and green to raise awareness about food insecurity. The Capitolio, La Fortaleza, the Department of State, Plaza Las Américas, and Puerto Rico Supplies Group joined the Banco de Alimentos in this initiative. Mari Jo Laborde, president of the Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico, stated that every entity that participates in this initiative helps to convey an important message: that combating hunger requires everyone’s effort.
The activity took place in September as part of Hunger Action Month, a campaign promoted by Feeding America to create awareness about food insecurity and encourage community participation. The Banco de Alimentos de Puerto Rico is a non-profit organization dedicated to recovering and distributing food through assistance programs and alliances with entities that offer services directly to communities.
