Authorities rescued four people on Sunday from Charco Frío in Ceiba after a sudden rise in the water trapped them, the State Emergency Management Bureau (NMEAD) said. The four, three tourists and their guide, were brought out of the river safe and sound once the water went down and declined medical evaluation, the bureau said.
The Ceiba Municipal Emergency Management Office (OMME) led the operation with the bureau, the Police, the Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services. Earlier, the National Weather Service had issued a flash flood warning for Ceiba and Fajardo, where three to four inches of rain were observed, and warned of high water on the Fajardo River, which feeds the pool.
Corrected October 4: an earlier version said three people “have not yet been rescued”; El Nuevo Día later reported that four people, three tourists and their guide, were rescued safe and sound.
