A man died from multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday morning on PR-3, kilometer 156.4, in Salinas, the Puerto Rico Police reported. According to preliminary information, a 911 emergency call alerted authorities to a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found a tow truck with several bullet impacts.

Police searched the area and located the body of Reinaldo Torres López, 36, nearby, with several gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, the Police confirmed. Inspector José Torres, director of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) in Guayama, said the body was found in a pasture, in a ditch in a vacant lot, and that the man appeared to have been trying to run from the gunfire. Officers found bullet casings at the scene. The CIC’s Homicide Division will look into whether the killing is related to another in Salinas on September 18, when Armando Joel Ortiz Colón, 37, was killed at the Armandito Tire Center in the Coco neighborhood. Torres said he could not yet say whether the two cases were linked, though investigators were not ruling anything out.

Corrected October 8: an earlier version said PR-3 would remain closed in the area and gave a police tip line, and said the killing closed a section of PR-3. El Nuevo Día reported none of these, and they were removed. This version also names the victim and adds the investigators’ account, as El Nuevo Día’s updated report does.
