  • Other reservoirs, including Matrullas, Guayo, and Loco, also saw decreases in their water levels.
  • Carraízo’s water level rose by 23 centimeters due to rainfall from a tropical wave.

Why this matters: The decline in water levels at La Plata and other reservoirs may impact the water supply for local households and communities in Puerto Rico, particularly if the trend continues.

The La Plata reservoir in Comerío continues to lose water, falling 8 centimeters over two days, six of them between Wednesday and Thursday, according to monitoring data from the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA). La Plata stood at 43.62 meters on Thursday morning, down from 43.68 meters on Wednesday and 43.70 meters on Tuesday.

It is currently the only reservoir remaining in the Adjustments band, per AAA data. Three other reservoirs also dropped: Matrullas, in Orocovis, fell four centimeters between Wednesday and Thursday to 733.75 meters; Guayo, in Lares, fell nine centimeters; and Loco, in Yauco, fell seven centimeters. Other reservoirs rose after rains tied to a tropical wave passing over Puerto Rico.

Carraízo gained the most, climbing 23 centimeters to 40.88 meters, though it remains below the safe level.
