A trough will maintain a rainy pattern over Puerto Rico during the long weekend, with passing showers in the mornings and rain and thunderstorm activity in the afternoons, according to National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist Glorianne Rivera. Since early Saturday morning, moderate to heavy showers have been registered in eastern municipalities and northern sectors, including the San Juan metropolitan area.
For the afternoon, the development of showers and thunderstorms is expected, mainly from the interior to the southwest of the island, with municipalities such as Cabo Rojo and Lajas possibly receiving rain. The cloudiness will help maintain cooler temperatures on Saturday, Rivera indicated. Although maritime conditions will remain calm, with waves below five feet in almost all local waters and a low risk of rip currents, Rivera urged beachgoers to be aware of the rain.
The pattern will continue on Sunday and Monday, while the trough moves through the region. However, Rivera anticipated that Saturday will be more rainy than the following days.
