The Puerto Rico Innovation and Technology Service (PRITS) began a series of training sessions for government employees on cyber threats, information protection, and responsible use of artificial intelligence on Monday, as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. According to PRITS Executive Director Poincaré Díaz Peña, a trained and informed public servant is the primary line of defense for the government’s technological infrastructure.
The first session, which included participation from the federal Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), discussed strategies used by attackers to compromise computer systems and how threats can target employees, access credentials, and service providers. Participants also received guidance on the Policy for the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Government of Puerto Rico, which establishes parameters for incorporating these tools into public agencies.
PRITS will offer additional training sessions throughout October and host a meeting with Chief Information Officers from government agencies to discuss their responsibilities, technological public policy, and priorities related to cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
