Why this matters: The robberies highlight the vulnerability of elderly residents in Canóvanas to violent crime, with the victims suffering physical harm and significant financial losses.

In Canóvanas, Puerto Rico, two elderly adults were victims of violent home robberies on Tuesday. A 78-year-old woman reported that three to four men, dressed in black and armed, broke into her home in the San Isidro neighborhood, stealing jewelry, two Samsung cell phones, a tablet, and over $4,800 in cash and valuables. The woman, who was asleep with her husband, received medical attention from paramedics and is in stable condition.

In a separate incident, a 74-year-old man called the police at 2:20 AM to report a robbery at his home on PR-188, where five masked and armed men broke in through a window, tied him up, and caused him physical harm, including damage to one of his teeth. The man was taken to a hospital after being freed.

Both scenes were processed by the Technical Services Division and the cases were referred to the Robbery Division of the CIC in Carolina.
