Why this matters: The incident highlights the risk of road rage and gun violence on Puerto Rico’s roads, particularly in areas like Carolina where traffic incidents can escalate into violent confrontations.

A traffic incident allegedly caused by a 'corte de pastelillo' (cutting off another driver) ended in one driver shooting at another on PR-3 near the intersection with Muñoz Rivera Avenue in Carolina. According to the Puerto Rico Police’s preliminary report, the incident occurred at 6:47 AM on Thursday, when the victim was driving a blue Toyota Corolla.

The victim claimed someone in a moving vehicle shot at him, damaging his car. The case was initially investigated by municipal police officer Enrique López and later referred to the Puerto Rico Police. Inspector Rubén Moyeno, commissioner of the Carolina Municipal Police, said they initially received an alert about shots fired on 65th Infantry Avenue but later found the incident occurred at the PR-3 and Muñoz Rivera intersection.

Moyeno explained that the victim alleged an exchange of words with the other driver, apparently over a 'corte de pastelillo', before the other driver shot at him. The alleged shooter later turned himself in at a police station and made some admissions. The Police confirmed the victim’s vehicle has a bullet impact on the door area.

Authorities seized a firearm and the alleged shooter’s vehicle as part of the investigation and are checking if he has a valid gun license. The victim told Telemundo he was 'very scared' and 'nervous’ and denied the incident was over a 'corte de pastelillo', claiming the other driver mistook him for someone else.
