Puerto Rico Allocates $2.25 Million to Repair School and Police Station Parking Lots in 18 Municipalities

Governor Jenniffer González Colón and Public Buildings Authority (AEP) Executive Director Félix Lasalle Toro announced $2,253,998 in funding to rehabilitate parking areas at schools and Police stations across 18 Puerto Rico municipalities: Aguadilla, Bayamón, Cabo Rojo, Corozal, Florida, Juncos, Lajas, Las Marías, Manatí, Orocovis, Patillas, San Germán, San Lorenzo, San Sebastián, Vega Alta, Villalba, Yabucoa and Yauco. Each municipality received between $115,000 and $130,333. González Colón called the funding a historic amount allocated with urgency to fix long-deteriorated lots used by teachers, principals and school staff, and said the effort extends to Police stations to improve officers' work environment.

Funds come from the AEP and are disbursed through a Corporate Agreement signed between each municipality and the public corporation. Municipalities will select one or more school or Police station projects to address based on need, using high-quality, long-lasting asphalt that must meet specifications for the applicable zones. Each municipality must submit a detailed report to the AEP within 30 days of completing the work, including supplier and contractor invoices and photographs.

Lasalle Toro said the initiative reflects continued, unprecedented-scale refurbishment of public facilities.
