Santa Isabel Mayor Meldwin Rivera has referred former mayor Enrique Questell to the Office of Government Ethics and the Office of the Comptroller, asking them to investigate possible irregularities involving the company Aquamak and the alleged appropriation of municipal land. Rivera confirmed the referral on Wednesday, October 21, in an interview with Radio Isla 1320, after first announcing it on the program Pega’os en la Mañana.
He said he personally delivered the documents to the comptroller on Monday, October 19, and that she received him in her office. Rivera said the documents point to an alleged omission of responsibility by Questell while he was mayor, when he defended the corporation Aquamak and the appropriation of municipal land. The mayor said the referral seeks to examine possible omissions during Questell’s time in office.
Questell also served as vice chair of the Governing Board of the Municipal Revenue Collection Center (CRIM). The case involves Don Iluminado, a 90-year-old man facing an eviction order amid a dispute over land that, according to documents the town presented, belongs to the people of Santa Isabel. Rivera said the action is part of efforts to clarify the status of the land and determine whether there were irregularities. The text gives no response from Questell.
