It is organized into 7 barrios plus Santa Isabel Pueblo, spans 188 km², and is home to roughly 20,281 residents as of 2020.
Founded in 1842, Santa Isabel serves as the principal city of the Santa Isabel Micropolitan Statistical Area and is part of the larger Ponce-Yauco-Coamo Combined Statistical Area. Its southern coastline gives it access to the offshore island of Caja de Muertos, along with beach areas such as Playa de Jauca and local nightlife spots like Oasis Café.
