Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz called on Thursday for an investigation into a purported recording attributed to José “Chicky” Laureano, president of the Puerto Rican Boxing Federation and an employee of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD), over possible corruption allegations. Rivera Schatz said authorities must determine whether the audio, which circulated on social media, is authentic or was created with artificial intelligence.
in public service there CANNOT BE SUPERSTARS OF CORRUPTION
He warned that if it is a defamation, action should be taken against whoever is responsible, but if the allegations are true, proceedings should follow against those involved. He urged the secretaries of Justice, Recreation and Sports, and Governance, as well as the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR), to investigate the matter and disclose the results.
“Let’s hope it isn’t true and it gets cleared up, but if it were true, in public service there CANNOT BE SUPERSTARS OF CORRUPTION,” Rivera Schatz wrote on social media. The controversy stems from questions raised over possible irregularities involving the leadership of Puerto Rican boxing. Neither the authenticity of the audio nor the veracity of the allegations has been confirmed.
