Puerto Rico’s Adriana Díaz advanced Thursday to the round of 16 at the Pan American Table Tennis Championship in Chile, beating Canada’s Olivia Wang 4-1 in five games. The win keeps the player from Utuado on course for a seventh consecutive continental title.
Díaz returns to the table on Friday at 8:00 PM against Mexico’s Arantxa Cossio, seeking a spot in the quarterfinals. The other five Puerto Rican singles competitors were eliminated: Steven Moreno, Edmarie León, Alondra Rodríguez, Brianna Burgos and Enrique Ríos each lost their respective matches.
