The event will close out the centenary commemoration of the composer and benefits the public radio station of the University of Puerto Rico.
Producer and researcher Luis Guillermo Rivera Izquierdo will deliver a keynote lecture based on his recent research, combining audiovisual resources and live musical performances to highlight other facets of Curet Alonso’s repertoire, with special attention to his Christmas compositions. Participants include professor and musician Orlando Laureano; Dr. Irvin Santiago, director of the Río Piedras campus Music Department; cuatrista Fabiola Muñoz Ortiz; singer Jahir Maldonado Irrizarry; and guitarists Héctor Machado Mercado and Braulio Salvá.
Interim chancellor Mayra B. Charriez Cordero called the composer’s work an invaluable contribution to Puerto Rican and Caribbean culture.
