Political analyst Luis Dávila Colón warned on the NotiUno 630 program En La Mirilla that social media comments posted after the killing of former activist Félix Plaud and his lawyer, Luis Quiñones González, reflect 'the rottenness of the soul and heart of some Puerto Ricans.' Dávila Colón displayed on screen dozens of comments from NotiUno’s social media about the case, with users’ surnames and profile photos hidden.
In them, several people justify or celebrate the homicides committed by William Rivera, the bail bondsman who later took his own life. One user identified only as Lourdes wrote 'very brave of you,' while another, identified as Jim, wrote 'well killed, very well.' Dávila Colón called the reaction a glorification of the perpetrator, saying 'we have come to glorify the figure of the murderer,' and framed it as part of an erosion of moral, ethical and Christian values in Puerto Rico over the last 25 years.
He pointed out a contradiction: society defends the sanctity of human life by opposing the death penalty and abortion, yet part of the country justifies taking justice into one’s own hands in civil and contractual disputes. He linked the reaction to the case, months earlier, of a father who was said to have avenged his daughter and became 'a national hero' because part of the public viewed it as justified.
He warned that if this normalization grows, it could lead to higher levels of violence and social convulsion.
