The chair of the Government Committee of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, Víctor Parés, announced on Thursday, October 29, 2026, on the Pega’os en la Mañana program that next week he will file a request before the House to hold a public hearing on November 9, at which LUMA Energy must respond to complaints of overbilling to customers and reported problems with smart meters. Parés said bills are jumping far beyond the ordinary: a customer who paid 120 now pays 300 or 400, which he called out of the common pattern, and he said LUMA has to explain what is really happening, whether it is a meter failure or a meter installation problem, and that the company must guide consumers.

He assured that the House will stay on top of the situation and will investigate what has occurred. Parés also said he has a meeting pending with LUMA representatives for the coming Monday, November 2.
