Why this matters: For families pursuing answers after a death at a community sports event in Puerto Rico, the case shows the Institute of Forensic Sciences delivering autopsy reports about two months after a death, and a municipality with no direct answers for relatives.

The family of Daniel Rodríguez, a 25-year-old who died in an accident at a basketball tournament in Bayamón, received his autopsy report, his sister Vianka Rodríguez said. She explained that on Monday she and her family went to the Institute of Forensic Sciences to pick up the report, which was delivered to them two months after his death, so they could learn more about what happened that day.

In her view, the report gave answers to some questions but also raised new ones, and since they are not experts and had never gone through such a process, they will seek help interpreting the findings in more detail. The CIC of Bayamón confirmed to the family that it opened a case to investigate the death.

Despite that support, Rodríguez stressed that neither the municipality, nor Recreation and Sports staff, nor the tournament organizers, nor ambulance service personnel have contacted the family to offer answers.
