The New Progressive Party (PNP) announced on Friday, October 30 that it will hold its annual convention from December 4 to 6. The announcement came amid an internal leadership dispute between Senator Thomas Rivera Schatz and Governor Jenniffer González. In an Instagram post decorated with Christmas imagery, the party gave only the dates and did not say where the event will take place.
The post asked supporters to 'save the date of December 4 to 6, 2026, to meet at the Convention of the New Progressive Party, share, celebrate our traditions and strengthen the ties that unite us.' It added that, in accordance with the party’s bylaws, the three days will be used to constitute all the bodies of the party’s organizational structure.
The post closed with a reference to parranda, the traditional Puerto Rican Christmas music, and to the strength of the Palma, the party’s symbol.
