Police captured a fugitive wanted in connection with a killing on Friday morning in Ponce. The arrestee was identified as Joniel Doménech Torres, 25. Joey Fontánez, director of the Intelligence and Arrest Division, said agents of the 'Strike Force', supported by federal marshals, detained him at the Perla del Caribe public housing complex, where they also arrested another man after seizing controlled substances.

Doménech Torres faced an arrest warrant for the killing of Omar Raúl Burgos Cintrón, 48, reported on August 24 at the Dr. Pila housing complex in Ponce. According to the investigation, the suspect allegedly fired several shots at the victim, killing him at the scene. He was charged in absentia with first-degree murder and weapons law violations.

A court had issued an arrest warrant with total bail set at $1 million, per a Police report dated September 21, when the agency asked citizens for help locating him; police had previously sought the same man on weapons and controlled substances charges. Separately, Intelligence and Arrest agents executed two search warrants at the Brisas de Cayey housing complex, detaining two men, 45 and 25, after finding marijuana and over $3,000 in one apartment, and seizing a vehicle suspected of containing drugs and firearms.

Fontánez said the operation is part of an investigation begun the previous Friday into shootings at three Cayey complexes: Brisas de Cayey, Luis Muñoz Morales and Jardines de Montellano.
