The University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (UPRRP), through its Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies (DECEP), and the Instituto Socio-Económico Comunitario, Inc. (INSEC) formalized a strategic alliance to promote educational initiatives, training programs and community-impact projects aimed at strengthening the economic and social self-sufficiency of individuals, families and communities in Puerto Rico. Under a framework agreement signed by both institutions, they will develop a joint work plan focused on expanding opportunities for training, professional development and growth for various sectors of the population.
DECEP will collaborate with INSEC on initiatives related to entrepreneurship, leadership, financial education, employability, community development and innovation, among other areas. The agreement will also create professional development opportunities for INSEC staff, allow university academic and professional resources to take part in educational and community projects, and promote access to DECEP courses, workshops, certifications and other educational services.
Interim Río Piedras Chancellor Mayra Charriez Cordero said the alliance strengthens the university’s commitment to making knowledge, research and continuing education accessible for personal, professional and economic growth. INSEC executive director Gabriel López Arrieta called it a historic alliance that contributes to fighting poverty, placing education as a pillar for the economic and social self-sufficiency of low-income people, families and communities across the island.
