Why this matters: The FBI’s San Juan office located a fugitive hiding in Vieques, showing federal drug-trafficking investigations on the mainland can reach even the island municipality’s island municipalities like Vieques.

Agents of the FBI’s San Juan office, working with the United States Marshals Service, arrested a federal fugitive in Vieques, Puerto Rico, on October 26, 2026. The man, whose identity was not disclosed, faces charges of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine for allegedly sending large quantities of cocaine through the United States Postal Service.

"No matter where you hide, justice will find you," the FBI said in the post.

The arrest came out of an investigation by the FBI’s Cleveland, Ohio office, the agency said in a post on X. According to the FBI, the suspect fled after being charged and tried to evade authorities by hiding in Vieques, known as the Isla Nena. "No matter where you hide, justice will find you," the FBI said in the post.

The agency added that it will continue working with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks and restore security to communities.
