Why this matters: The fuel powers AAA pumping stations serving the Lares mountain area, so losses like these $2,522.50 in diesel come out of the utility’s operating costs and could weigh on water service reliability for local residents.

Two complaints for diesel theft at two Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) pumping stations in the Río Prieto sector of Lares were reported to the Police on Wednesday morning, November 4. An AAA representative denounced that someone broke the locks of the facilities to access the fuel supply tanks and took 300 and 150 gallons of diesel, respectively, for a combined estimated value of $2,522.50.

Officer Samuel Pérez Pérez, assigned to the Castañer Precinct, took the complaint and referred the case to the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) of Utuado for investigation. No arrests were reported in the initial police account of the thefts at the two stations.
