Lares is a mountain town and municipality in Puerto Rico's central-western area, situated in the island's north region in an inland setting about 52 mi from San Juan. It is bordered by Maricao and Yauco to the south, Camuy to the north, San Sebastián and Las Marías to the east, and Hatillo, Utuado and Adjuntas to the west, and is organized into 10 barrios plus Lares Pueblo.
The municipality is part of the Aguadilla-Isabela-San Sebastián Metropolitan Statistical Area. Founded in 1827, Lares had a population of approximately 28,105 as of 2020.
The town is home to the Museo de Lares, which focuses on local culture.
