More than 4,000 high school students from across Puerto Rico visited the University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez campus (RUM) on Thursday for the traditional Open House 2026, a day designed to orient them on the campus’s academic offerings, services and training opportunities. The event, organized by the RUM Admissions Office under the Student Affairs deanship, let prospective students tour the campus, learn firsthand about the academic programs of the colleges of Agricultural Sciences, Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Business Administration, and interact with professors, researchers, administrative staff and college students.
UPR president Dr. Zayira Jordán Conde said choosing where to continue university studies is one of the most important decisions in a young person’s life, and that welcoming more than 4,000 students to the campus shows the value of opening its facilities so they can see firsthand the research, innovation and disciplines where they can develop their potential. Mayagüez campus rector Dr. Miguel A. Muñoz said the Open House is one of the best chances to show the institution’s role in training the professionals Puerto Rico needs, welcoming students along with family members, teachers and counselors.
Visitors accessed academic exhibits, scientific demonstrations, research projects, student associations and other interactive experiences. Student Affairs dean Dr. Mayra L. González Ornes said the enthusiasm reaffirms new generations’ interest in joining the campus community.
