Loíza Mayor Julia Nazario said Friday that powerful swells have battered the town’s coastline for three weeks without letting up, preventing crews from starting work to address damage caused by coastal erosion. "Three weeks, one stronger, one less. The sea has not receded at any moment," Nazario said in an interview with Rubén Sánchez.

She explained that the municipal government is still waiting for the swell to subside so it can intervene in the area of 3rd Street in the Parcelas Suárez neighborhood, where the advance of the sea has compromised the road infrastructure. Nazario warned that the town has 14 communities vulnerable to the effects of strong swells, including Parcelas Vieques and Parcelas Suárez.
She insisted that although repairs are needed, the work cannot begin until the sea recedes and conditions allow crews to intervene safely. Municipal authorities remain concerned about the possibility of further damage to coastal areas, and the town continues to monitor the swell and its possible effects on the communities.
