Puerto Rico's state and municipal authorities will deploy a comprehensive security operation today, Tuesday, at the island's main beaches for the Noche de San Juan celebration. Mario González Collazo, the interagency coordinator for emergency management at the Puerto Rico Police, stated that the strategic plan was coordinated with area commanders and other units to assign the necessary officers.
The plan includes maritime, terrestrial, and aerial surveillance, with areas such as San Juan, Carolina, Salinas, Vega Baja, Mayagüez, and Cabo Rojo being covered. Juan Jackson, the commissioner of the San Juan Municipal Police, said that his department will work with the Municipal Emergency Management Office, Public Works, and Sports Recreation, in coordination with the state police.
The operation will include 75 municipal officers, patrolling with maritime units, terrestrial officers, and drones with thermal cameras. The Municipality of Carolina will also have a security plan in place from 8:00 p.m. today to 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, with over 100 officers from the maritime unit, as well as terrestrial surveillance using patrols, motorcycles, bicycles, and all-terrain vehicles.
