The Autoridad de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AAA) will activate a plan for 'programmed interruptions' due to low rainfall, starting with the municipalities of Loíza and Canóvanas as early as Friday. Governor Jenniffer González Colón convened a meeting at La Fortaleza with the mayors of Loíza, Canóvanas, Juncos, Las Piedras, Humacao, San Lorenzo, Ceiba, Río Grande to discuss strategies for addressing the needs of citizens, hospitals, schools, businesses, and farmers.
González Colón emphasized the importance of preparing for water rationing, stating that authorities will not wait for extreme drought to take precautions. The AAA has a plan in place for managing programmed interruptions, and other municipalities may be added to the list if necessary.
Ernesto Rodríguez, director of the Servicio Nacional de Meteorología, also participated in the meeting.
