Updated Jun 28, 2026 · via Primera Hora

Approximately 60 soldiers from the 77th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion of the US Army Reserve departed from Puerto Rico to a mobilization facility in the US mainland as part of their preparation for a mission in the US Central Command area of responsibility, which includes the Middle East and parts of Central Asia. The battalion's mission is to provide logistical capabilities to support military operations, including transportation of personnel and equipment, supply distribution, maintenance, and other essential services.

The mobilization occurred while the US Southern Command is deploying personnel and equipment from Ceiba, Puerto Rico, in support of the US government's response to the emergency caused by earthquakes in Venezuela. The movement was made possible by the logistical coordination of the Fort Buchanan Logistics Preparation Center, with a cost of over $260,000.

Earnest Dillon, part of the Transportation Division team, stated that the movement of a unit is a deliberate process that requires careful planning and coordination. The deployment demonstrates the role of Fort Buchanan in facilitating the operational preparation of military forces.
