The mayor of Loíza, Julia Nazario Fuentes, is calling on citizens to donate essential items to be sent to Venezuela with a delegation of 14 children participating in the 2026 Little League Latin American and Caribbean Series. The initiative aims to have the players return to their country with suitcases full of supplies, including hygiene products, flashlights, work gloves, and safety helmets.
Organizers have requested that no canned food be included to make the most of the available space. Local merchants have purchased suitcases to be filled with donations and are managing checks or money orders of $50 to cover transportation costs.
Donations can be dropped off at the Carlos Escobar Center in Loíza on June 30 and July 1. The Little League series, which started on Thursday and ends on July 2, features 250 children from 13 countries, including Venezuela, which was recently affected by two earthquakes that left a scene of destruction and thousands affected.
