LUMA Energy announced on Sunday night that load shedding is being carried out in various parts of Puerto Rico due to generation deficiencies caused by the sudden shutdown of a Genera PR unit. As a result, some customers may experience electrical service interruptions.
Although LUMA is not responsible for generation, the company is in constant communication with generating companies to minimize the impact on customers. At the time of the notice, the LUMA portal reported that the regions with the most customers without service were San Juan, with 19,556; Carolina, with 14,199; Arecibo, with 12,888; and Ponce, with 12,022 affected customers, totaling 86,105 customers without service as of 10:00 PM on Sunday.
LUMA did not identify which generating unit went out of operation, the areas that could be affected, or how long the load shedding would last.
