Starting Wednesday, July 15, Puerto Rico police officers will see salary adjustments reflected in their payroll under the new salary structure for the Puerto Rico Police. The raise was confirmed Friday when the Financial Oversight and Management Board (JSF) verified the proposal met the methodology, principles, and criteria of the Public Service Reform and the Government of Puerto Rico's Uniform Classification and Compensation Plan, according to Governor Jenniffer González Colón. Police Superintendent Joseph González celebrated the approval, saying officers will begin receiving adjustments corresponding to the new pay scale, calling it fiscally responsible "salary justice." The governor first announced the raise on April 29.

Cadets' monthly pay will rise from $1,818 to $2,296 ($21,000 to $27,000 annually). The base salary, previously $2,860 monthly, will rise to between $3,612 and $4,516 ($34,320 to $43,354 annually), with other ranks receiving increases based on years of service: sergeants from $3,166 to $3,974-$4,967; second lieutenants from $3,685 to $4,371-$5,464; first lieutenants from $4,494 to $4,808-$6,000. The government initially estimated a $28 million fiscal impact, per OGP Director Orlando C.

Rivera Berríos, but the Police Department's payroll adjustment showed a larger impact of $33 million.
